With one intention, that is to be independent, Austin Vine moved from the city to Bone County. After a massive period of long-distance freight driving, he found the dormant towns of the desert to be a place where he could make a fortune. At the periphery of Fort Carson, he made a bargain for a pretty rundown warehouse and turned it into a twofold business—a microbrewery and a logistics company. Bone County Brewery is now supplying local bars and markets with craft beer brewed from desert well water and regional hops, while Vine Logistics is transporting freight between Las Venturas and Red County.
On a personal level, Austin is responsible for both operations. At the start of the day, he is brewing and later in the day, he is taking a shipment to its destination. The business is doing well, and this has been possible through the trust created by a handshake deal and timely delivery. He keeps his workers to a minimum, his trucks are in good condition, and he is true to his word. What is hidden beneath his unassuming behavior is a great sense of pride in the fact that he is enabling the local industry to live on without the need for corporate backing. People in Bone County call him 'the man who turned dust into draft.' What he calls it is work.
